The life of a coffee

(Photo Credits: ME - Diary Souls) Coffee started as something bitter. Yet over time, people added milk, sugar, syrups, whipped cream, and countless flavours to soften its taste. Today, there are so many variations of coffee that a simple order can almost feel like a reflection of someone's personality. But perhaps coffee isn't the only thing we've sweetened. Think about the phrases we use every day. "UGH so bitter of you" "Aww, that's so sweet of you." Somewhere along the way, sweetness became a compliment while bitterness became a criticism. We associate sweet things with kindness, warmth, and affection. Bitter things, on the other hand, are often linked to resentment, disappointment, or negativity. But who decided that? What if we reversed the phrases? "UGH so sweet of you" "Aww, that's so bitter of you." It sounds strange. Not because the words themselves are strange, but because we've spent our lives attaching emotions...

Why Skipping Your Graduation Ceremony Might Be a Missed Opportunity

In my circle, I've noticed a prevailing sentiment that graduation ceremonies are just a waste. "Waste of time," they say. "Money down the drain," others chime in. Some even go as far as to call their school days nothing short of a living nightmare. Frankly, I've always found these perspectives puzzling.

Isn't a graduation ceremony a moment to celebrate your achievements, to bask in the glow of a milestone accomplished?
It's a time for reunions with family and friends, a moment to express gratitude to those who've supported you—teachers, staff, friends, and more.
The reasons to celebrate are countless.

As a child, I was captivated by my parents' school photos, especially the ones with them donning graduation gowns. It stirred something within me, a deep-seated motivation to strive for my own moment in that cap and gown, tossing it joyously into the air. While I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed academically, I do have goals, dreams to pursue.

A Personal Journey

Sure, some suggest I could just rent a gown and snap a few photos, bypassing the ceremony altogether. But to me, it's about more than just the fabric. It's about the journey, the sweat and tears shed to earn the privilege of wearing that gown. It's a symbol of transition, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

I recall a pivotal moment during my diploma graduation ceremony when they mentioned the coveted hat was reserved for degree holders. It ignited a fire within me, propelling me to strive for more, to continue my education. Fast forward to today, I stood on stage, receiving my Upper Secondary Honours degree in front of my batchmates, family, and friends. It was a moment that encapsulated years of hard work and dedication.

Why the Ceremony Matters

For many, the cost is a significant factor. But consider this: just like you pay for a concert to experience the music and atmosphere, attending your graduation is an investment in celebrating your personal success. The ceremony isn’t just for show; it’s a rite of passage that recognizes your perseverance and resilience.

Moreover, graduation is a chance to connect with classmates, teachers, and even potential mentors. These relationships can open doors to future opportunities and friendships that enrich your life beyond school.

A Celebration Worth Having

So, before you decide to skip the ceremony, think about what it represents. It’s not just about donning a cap and gown; it’s about celebrating you and your achievements. It's a rare moment where you can pause, reflect, and proudly say, "I did it."

Your graduation ceremony is more than a rite of passage; it's a celebration of you. Don’t miss the chance to honor your journey and step confidently into the future.

Reflection question of the day:

What will your graduation mean to you?
